🌱 Elementary school students are soil texture experts!
As part of our outreach activities, we recently visited a local elementary school to introduce students to the fascinating world of soil systems.
The students became real soil scientists through two hands-on activities:
🍂 Exploring the forest floor: They sorted an organic layer into its different components and identified various stages of decomposition.
🖐️ Feeling soil textures: The students compared four different soil samples by evaluating their grittiness, plasticity, and smooth, soapy feel. They enthusiastically kneaded, rolled, and squeezed the samples to discover how texture influences soil properties.
The students quickly became soil texture experts, and by the end of the session, the classroom proudly showed the evidence! 😊
A wonderful reminder that learning, whether in elementary school or at university, is best achieved by observing, touching, and exploring. Thank you to the teachers and students for the warm welcome and the great discussions!
