A Regional Park as a Mobility Hub for the Munich Metropolitan Region
Nature and Local Recreation Between Freising and Munich
Topic
Munich and the surrounding region form a shared living and economic area home to approximately six million people. In this metropolitan area, open spaces are scarce and face significant pressure from urban development, infrastructure, and intensive use. Natural areas are central to recreation, climate, and biodiversity. Preserving them urgently requires innovative concepts for landscape development that spans municipalities and natural areas. Building on existing intermunicipal landscape projects, this study project aims to develop building blocks for the creation of a regional park. Nature should lend cohesion and form to growing urban areas. Using the area between Freising and Munich as an example, special attention will be paid to the intersection with local recreation and mobility in order to build on the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Mobility as a catalyst for regional development.
