Protecting Trees: A Citizen Science Project Using the “My Tree” App

The BUND’s citizen science project “Volle Kanne Bäume schützen” is dedicated to preserving and improving urban and street trees in Bavarian cities and municipalities. With the help of the “Mein Baum” app, citizens are actively involved in recording trees. The goal is to gather reliable data on the condition of urban trees and the effects of climate change in urban areas.

The data collected makes an important contribution to basic research and supports nature conservation efforts. At the same time, the project aims to help improve the living conditions of urban and street trees in a sustainable manner and strengthen their protection wherever possible.

Another key focus is on comprehensive public outreach: Through targeted information campaigns, we are raising public awareness of the importance of urban trees and their care.

Our department supports BUND in the design of the project as well as in data collection. In addition, we conduct the scientific analysis of the collected data and make the results available for public outreach.
