Objectives
Students can identify the requirements for planting in landscape architecture projects at various planning stages and evaluate suitable solutions.
By incorporating plants as a living component of these projects, they are, ideally, able to identify and develop the functions and atmospheres of the projects. From the initial concept through to the supervision of the completed site, they acquire the skills to assess the opportunities and risks involved in the development of planting schemes.
This includes contextualising the projects within their historical framework, right through to the adaptation of vegetation in the context of climate change.

Description
The lecturers are involved in current landscape architecture projects and work at other universities. All have many years’ experience in the use of plants and the diverse requirements this entails. This wealth of experience is incorporated into the module.
The course consists of lectures held every two weeks and a summer school, the outcomes of which form the basis for assessment in the module.
The course builds on the fundamental knowledge acquired in previous semesters.
This includes addressing the natural occurrence and cultivation of plants in our gardens, as well as their integration into the planning process, such as the habitats of perennials and woody plants.
The resulting plant use is explored through historical and contemporary projects. The requirements arising from development management and climate change are incorporated into the lectures.
The adjacent perennial display garden is incorporated into the course through field trips.
Detailed content:
Projects on the use of plants in planning and practice
Revision of the fundamentals of plant use, plant knowledge
Plantings in public spaces,
Development cycles of plantings,
Planting systems such as mixed perennial plantings,
Building greening, technical fundamentals thereof,
Plantings in historical and contemporary contexts,
Course schedule:
21.04.: Introduction
Further sessions: 05.05.; 19.05.; 02.06., 16.06., 13.06.; 14.07;
Workshop in calendar week 36.
