Workshop Recap: Multi-Nutrient Constraints on CO₂-Driven Forest Carbon Sinks — Sydney, Australia
The workshop brought together experimenters and modelers from the 3 active Free-Air CO₂ Enrichment (FACE) experiments around the world (BiForFACE, EucFACE, and AmazonFACE) to discuss how nitrogen, phosphorus, and other nutrients constrain the capacity of forests to absorb atmospheric CO₂.
Dr. Nathielly Martins presented her work on AmazonFACE and Root Nutrient Acquisition Strategies, sharing insights from the Amazon experiment on how tropical forest root systems respond to elevated CO₂ under nutrient-limited conditions, and how these dynamics might be integrated into ecosystem models.
It was a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues conducting FACE experiments globally and to strengthen collaborations to improve our understanding and modeling of forest responses to a changing world.
