Fredrick Onyango is a Geospatial Engineer from Kenya. He holds a BSc in Geospatial Engineering from the University of Nairobi in Kenya and an MSc in Geoinformatics from the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Fredrick has gained valuable experience working in both the public and private sectors.
He was a member of the academic staff at the Technical University of Kenya; his research interests focused on leveraging drone/UAV photogrammetry for various applications, including environmental science.
Fredrick is a PhD candidate with the LSYS Group, supported by a scholarship from the International Graduate School of Science and Engineering (IGSSE). His research involves collecting drone-based multispectral imagery and ground-truth vegetation data to develop biomass estimation models and image classification algorithms for distinguishing grasslands from shrublands in East African grazing systems. The findings aim to enhance livestock productivity and improve the environmental sustainability of African livestock systems.
