Objectives
On successful completion participants will have acquired fair knowledge on different concepts of urban planting design, on this basis be able to develop their own plantings, know the characteristic species of different planting concepts, and be able to assess their design qualities, site and management requirements.
Description
The module aims to deepen your knowledge and skills in planting design in landscape architecture. It will present and discuss different conceptual approaches to planting design in the city with their respective cultural-historic, architectural, urban design and urban ecological backgrounds, important planting designers, characteristic plant selections and compositions and as well as giving hints to the management of the respective plantings.
This semester we are also offering the opportunity to take part in a joint student ideas competition organised by the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment for a city square in Augsburg. Here we are working in teams with the HSWT (also 6th semester landscape architecture) and are also supervising the competition together with Prof Kristian Förster (HSWT) and Prof Stephan Pauleit (TUM). The aim of the competition is to develop new and sustainable designs and square concepts, you can create connections between the square concept and green roofs or integrate rainwater management, work out façade greening or networked green spaces, incorporate street tree systems or perennial/meadow strips or come up with something completely different. Conditions of participation and deadlines will be presented at the kick-off event.
IMPORTANT: THE COURSE WILL TAKE PLACE FROM 15 OCTOBER EVERY TUESDAY FROM 4-6 PM IN LECTURE HALL H7 OF THE HSWT (STAUDENSICHTUNGSGARTEN)!
