Biography
Dr Susanne Raum's research explores human-environmental relationships and how this information can inform policy, planning and practice. Her work focuses on urban trees, forest policy and governance, and the diverse ways in which nature contributes to society and human well-being.
As a recent Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Fellow, she led research on the growing risks posed by pests and diseases to urban trees in the EU Horizon 2020 funded project TREEPACT. She has also contributed to StreuWiKlim, a citizen science project examining the impacts of climate change on traditional orchards; SUPERB, a Horizon 2020 project dedicated to advancing large-scale forest restoration across Europe; and UNPICK, aimed at understanding public risk in relation to tree health.
Susanne has a BA in Geography, an MSc in Environmental Management, and a PhD in Environmental Policy from Imperial College London. She has held positions at Imperial College's Centre for Environmental Policy, the Environmental Law Foundation, and Forest Research, the UK government's forestry research institute. Between 2008-2010, she coordinated the Air Pollution Research in London network.
Since 2021, she has been a Research Fellow and Lecturer at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where she teaches in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Landscape Planning.
