We've published a study exploring the global impacts of lightning strikes on forests using the LPJ-GUESS model. This marks the first time that lightning-induced tree mortality has been incorporated into a dynamic global vegetation model. Our simulations estimate that lightning kills between 301 and 340 million trees annually, contributing to approximately 2.1% to 2.9% of total global biomass mortality: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gcb.70312
