The project aim is to improve the ecological conditions of the “Alte Saale bei Orlamünde”, which will be reconnected to the main river Saale. This project will evaluate the functionality of various life-stage specific habitats for fish and their temperature zonation and heterogeneity. In addition, active bioindication with fish eggs will be used to assess the hatching rates of brown trout eggs in the newly constructed spawning grounds in the Alte Saale and compare them with results from existing spawning grounds in the Saale and Orla rivers. The relationship between productivity, the presence of macroinvertebrates, and the expected fishing yield will also be investigated.
