Scientific monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of water management measures to improve water quality in Lake Altmühl
The overall objective of this project is to investigate the effectiveness of specific measures to improve water quality in selected areas of natural bathing waters.
As part of an accompanying scientific study, relevant physical-chemical parameters and the composition of macrophyte, phytoplankton, and cyanobacteria communities are examined over time and space, and the influence of water management measures is investigated comparatively. The investigations are divided into three main parts: 1) a preliminary assessment of the existing situation before the measures are implemented, 2) comprehensive monitoring in the areas where measures are implemented and in reference areas during subsequent vegetation periods, and 3) a final effect modeling with the derivation of further potentially necessary measures for optimized management.
